The Women

But my curiosity finally won out, and I began listening to The Women several days ago on Audible. I am now more than halfway through the audiobook; just starting Part Two, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts/feelings.
Once in a while a book arrives in our lives just at the right time. The Women is one such book. Initially, I thought this was a book that would herald the bravery and sacrifice of the nurses who served in Vietnam. It certainly does all that and more.
The Women is about WOMEN! All of us WOMEN! Baby boomer women, like me, will relate to and remember 1967 and 1968 as if it were yesterday; the discrimination, the lack of rights, the men who expected us to be in the bedroom – not the boardroom, the inability to have control of our bodies (birth control pills were available only if you were married), and so on and so forth. Younger women today – both our daughters and granddaughters – must read The Women to fully understand and appreciate why 2024 must be the year we say, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.” We’ve fought these battles before … and we’ll do it again, and again, and again … until it’s clear we will never go back.
While there’s six hours remaining of The Women, and I have no clue how it’s going to end, I am convinced Kristin Hannah has written a story that will stand the test of time.
And although Kristin Hannah doesn’t need a review from me to promote The Women, I believe women of all ages need to read this book and then share it with their friends and relatives, especially those who may be as apprehensive as I once was.
Note: I wrote this "review" or pre-review more than a year ago. I still stand by it!
